The Kochi City police have launched a probe against a woman, who allegedly threatened and attempted to extort actor Unni Mukundan.

Officials said the case pertained to an incident that took place on August 23 this year. In his complaint, the actor stated that a woman hailing from Ottappalam had approached him with a request to read out a screenplay. She reached the actor’s rented house at Edappally.

On finding that the script was not complete, the actor refused to entertain her any further. The woman contacted the actor once again over phone and threatened to file a police complaint against him for rape. Soon after, a man who introduced himself as an advocate called up the actor and demanded that he either marry the woman or give her ₹25 lakh as compensation.

The case was first registered in Ottappalam and was later shifted to the Cheranelloor police station. The case has been registered under sections 385, 506 and 34 of the IPC for putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.
