Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that further action on the recent remarks of the Kerala High Court about the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in connection with the land-grab cases against Salim Raj, a former gunman of Mr. Chandy, will be taken after discussing the issue with legal experts.
He was addressing a meet-the-leader programme organised by the Wayanad Press Club here on Saturday after attending an election campaign of M.I. Shanavas, the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in the Wayanad constituency.
Mr. Chandy said the court could have made the remarks after hearing his version, and further action would be taken after discussing the issue with legal experts and UDF leaders. The government would not take any action that would mar the status of the judiciary, Mr. Chandy said.
On why the government had not recommended a CBI probe in the case before the court direction, Mr. Chandy said nobody had asked for the same.
The Left Democratic Front had been trying to hound him on various issues, including the solar scam, since June last though the issues had been discussed by the Assembly and the Chief Minister’s Office was included in the terms of reference, Mr. Chandy alleged.
Mr. Chandy said in a democratic set-up, the final judgment was made by the public, which would assess the performance of the UDF government in the Lok Sabha elections. “I am fully confident about the success of the UDF in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
