Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan on Wednesday dismissed as erroneous the exit poll results announced by certain English news channels that predicted a good win for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections.

Answering questions at a press conference, he said he was inclined to believe the exit poll results given by one of the Malayalam news channels, which said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would win 10 to 12 seats out the 20 in Kerala. He said the results, for the LDF, might be better than this prediction.

Mr. Achuthanandan said he was of the view it would not do good to the Left to probe the post-election possibility of teaming up with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in a non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance at the Centre.

Corruption alleged

Mr. Achuthanandan alleged “big corruption” in the move to hand over the properties of Aluminium Industries Ltd. (Alind) to its promoters Somani Group.

He said the company had l85 acres of land worth Rs.4,000 crore distributed across three States. “The only intention of the promoters is to get hold of these landed properties,” Mr. Achuthanandan alleged.

He accused the Chief Minister’s Office of trying to facilitate the deal.
