Lambasting the Congress-led UDF Government over a host of issues ranging from uncertainties over Kochi Metro project to the land utilisation policy, senior CPI(M) leader V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday demanded immediate convening of the assembly to discuss vital issues.

Alleging that its policies in all spheres were tailor-made to suit the ‘land mafia’ and ‘vested interests’, the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly claimed that the Oommen Chandy Government was afraid of facing the House as debates there would expose its true colours.

Addressing a press meet, he wanted the Government to withdraw the proposed Land Utilisation Bill as it was solely meant to help realtors and land sharks without bothering about its adverse social and environmental consequences.

He also accused Chandy of “bluffing” people over the Kochi Metro Rail project.

“The Chief Minister says the government is keen to have the project implemented by DMRC with its former MD E Sreedharan as the principal adviser. At the same time, he is not willing to take action against the officials who sought to keep DMRC and Sreedharan off the project. Chandy has not come out with clear answers to questions thrown up in connection with Kochi metro rail,” he said.

Mr Achuthanandan added that the government had proved a total failure on bringing some relief to people reeling under the impact of runaway inflation.
