The Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom (ABASS) has welcomed the Railway budget clearing the proposed Chengannur-Sabarimala rail line project.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Mr D. Vijayakumar, ABASS national vice-president, said the proposed rail line, linking Aranmula, Kozhencherry, Ranni, Vadadserikkara and Kanamala with Pampa would be of great help to the scores of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala from different parts of the country.

Mr Vijayakumar said the Railways had carried out the survey on the proposed rail line project in 2006 as per the budget proposal made by the then Union Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav.

He said the budget proposal for conducting a survey on the proposed rail line parallel to the MC Road was also a welcome step on the part of the Union Government.
