The district administration, in association with the lead bank, has distributed trunk boxes to 26 families of tribespeople at Moozhiyar in the Sabarimala forests on Friday.
The decision to provide trunk boxes to the tribal families in Moozhiyar was taken during the visit of District Collector R. Girija to their colonies at Moozhiyar in the first week of April.
Makeshift tents
These nomadic tribespeople in the Sabarimala forests have been staying in makeshift tents in the forests and have difficulties in keeping their clothes and food articles safe.
It was a woman who had raised this issue with the Collector while receiving clothes and food kits supplied by the Tribal Welfare Department.
The Collector had promised an early solution to their problem and directed the Tribal Wefare Department authorities to make arrangements to supply trunk boxes to all tribal families in Moozhiyar.
Kits provided
Each tribal family in Moozhiyar was also provided with clothes, food packets, provision and vegetable kits, and books for schoolchildren on Friday.
The Punjab National Bank and the State Bank of India have extended financial support to the project sponsored by the lead bank, according to official sources.
V. Vijayakumaran, lead bank manager; P. Mohanan, SBI chief manager; R.V. Mohan, PNB manager; Gopakumar, Konni tahsildar, and Mallika, Scheduled Tribe welfare officer, were present.
