A rare gesture of camaraderie

K.K. Abid Husain Thangal, UDF candidate at Kottakkal, owes his students and colleagues more than their votes. In a rare gesture of camaraderie, his students and colleagues of Farook College, Feroke, raised the deposit amount for the Thangal, making it difficult for him to deny.

The Thangal, who heads the Department of Sociology at the college, has quite a large student base. Currently a member of the Calicut University Syndicate, he has been following a moderate line with his colleagues.

His students and friends handed over the deposit amount to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal at Panakkad on Tuesday.

The IUML has been following a tradition of its president from the revered Shihab family of Panakkad giving the deposit amount to party candidates before filing their nominations.

Husain Thangal, like other IUML candidates, too will accept the deposit amount from Shihab Thangal before filing his nomination.
