The Congress party on Thursday came out strongly against the Cabinet decision to seek the legal opinion of a former Supreme Court judge on the next course of action on the solar scam cases, terming it as a clear confession that its earlier premise based on the G. Sivarajan Commission’s findings to pursue the case was flawed.
The party, however, welcomed the LDF government’s decision to convene a special session of the Assembly on November 9 and commit itself to tabling the commission report.
Congress deputy leader in the Assembly K.C. Joseph said the decision to convene the special session of the House was a vain attempt on the part of the government to save its face. He said he would go ahead with the breach of privilege notice against the Chief Minister since the breach had already been committed with the disclosure of the commission’s report and the subsequent action taken. He wanted the Chief Minister to apologise for attempting to tarnish Mr. Chandy.
The convening of the special Assembly brings some consolation to the Opposition United Democratic Front, particularly the Congress, since it has been at odds with itself after the State government decided to act on the commission report.
