Validity of PSC lists extended

Around 200 rank lists will be extended by six months

December 30, 2016 07:21 pm | Updated 07:21 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Public Service Commission has decided to extend by six months the validity of about 200 rank lists that completed three years on Saturday and also those which are set to complete the same tenure by June 30, 2017.

The decision was made at a special meeting of the commission here on Friday following a Cabinet recommendation in this regard.

Briefing reporters about the deliberations at the meeting, commission chairman M.K. Sakeer told reporters that the lists that have already got an extension have not been considered by the commission. Moreover, the validity of the extended lists will automatically lapse on the publication of a new list for the same posts. The normal tenure of a list is three years.

Mr. Sakeer clarified that all lists may not get the benefit of six months. The commission has taken the decision without considering any particular list. Otherwise it may be deemed as if the commission was trying to favour identified beneficiaries. The decision has been made in line with the rules and regulations of the commission and also for those selected for uniformed forces, he said.

Procedures for issuing recruitment advice memos to about 4,000 posts have been completed. Recruitment can further be expedited on adopting e-reporting of vacancies and also rectifying the anomalies in the special rules for various posts. The government is seriously considering the commission’s requests for more posts to handle the workload, he said.
