Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the tottering relationship between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India, the main constituents of the Left Democratic Front, was paralysing the government.
Along with the tiff between IAS and IPS officers and the stand off with Secretariat employees, governance had become a casualty and the ruling coalition shaky.
The people were the real losers of the deterioration in the State administration within eight months of the LDF assuming power. Criticising the Chief Minister for his clean chit to the Vigilance Director, Mr. Chennithala said Mr. Vijayan had indirectly expressed lack of confidence in the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary.
Files were mounting in the Secretariat, with the Chief Minister’s Office registering the largest pile-up.
The differences between the two major parties ranged from the attitude towards Maoists to the law academy issue, with the leaders of the two organisations not bothering to conceal their animosity.
On top of it, the schism in the CPI(M) appeared to be resurfacing despite the party’s claim to the contrary, with former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan questioning some of the administrative decisions taken by the government.
Mr. Chennithala condemned CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s action in calling Secretariat officials over to the party headquarters, AKG Centre, in order to bring them around to accepting the government’s decision to establish the Kerala Administrative Services.
“What is the locus standi of the party State secretary to convene such a meeting? Was he becoming another power centre? The UDF is opposed to this move that will only set a bad precedent,” Mr. Chennithala said.
