The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Friday registered a case against former Industries Minister E.P. Jayarajan on the suspicion of having shown undue preference to his relatives in appointments to top posts in statutory Corporations and public sector units.

Additional Chief Secretary Paul Antony and Sudheer Nambiar, nephew of Mr. Jayarajan and son of CPI(M) central committee member P.K. Sreemathy, are also accused in the case. Investigators said the preliminary inquiry against the suspects had prima facie revealed a cognizable offence.

The findings warranted the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against them to set in motion a full-fledged criminal investigation. Legal adviser, VACB, C.C. Augustine told The Hindu that the accused would be investigated on the suspicion of having conspired as public servants and abused their official status.
