Matsyafed board rejects MD’s orders

January 07, 2017 06:50 pm | Updated 06:50 pm IST - ALAPPUZHA:

The director board of Kerala State Cooperative Federation for Fisheries Development Limited (Matsyafed) has decided to reject the orders issued by the new Managing Director (MD) in respect of appointments, disciplinary measures, and transfer orders.

The board decided to retain the temporary workers who were sought to be terminated by the MD. Matsyafed chairman V. Dinakaran said the board would initiate legal proceedings against the Managing Director for acting in violation of the board decisions.

The board has rejected the appointment and transfer orders issued by the MD between August 28, 2016, and December 28, 2016. Mr. Dinakaran alleged that the MD was acting on the dictates of the concerned minister.

An appeal had been filed in the court against the probe into the functioning of Matsyafed in the past, instituted on the basis of a report by Fisheries Registrar. Mr. Dinakaran said the court had imposed restrictions on taking unilateral decisions against the chairman.

The matter had been brought to the notice of the appellate authority of Fisheries Registrar, but the latter had not initiated any corrective measures, he said. The board decided to seek explanation from the MD for allegedly acting in violation of the board’s authority.

He alleged that the MD had been indulging in activities that adversely affected the functioning of Matsyafed. Affiliation certificates were not being issued to primary cooperatives and the medical relief allotted to beneficiaries had been denied.

The subsidy on kerosene and the bonus to eligible fishermen were not distributed. The Director Board had expressed resentment over the government’s neglect to the Board, he said.
