The Industries Department has agreed to allocate land for solid waste and plastic recovery and recycling facilities in Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation’s (KSIDC) three Industrial Growth Centres (IGCs) in Kannur, Kozhikode, and Alappuzha and at seven parks of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra).

M. Beena, managing director, KSIDC, told an investors’ meeting to promote recycling industries here on Thursday that the department would offer speedy clearance for land allocation through a single window system at the IGCs and Kinfra parks.

The KSIDC has earmarked 15 plots — five plots each at the IGCs at Valiyavelicham in Kannur, Kinalur in Kozhikode, and Cherthala in Alappuzha. All these IGCs already have well-developed infrastructure facilities, including power, water, and roads, facilitating setting up of solid waste/plastic recycling and processing units by interested entrepreneurs.

“The extent of land to be allotted in each plots would depend on the project requirements,” Ms. Beena told The Hindu .

Already, a plastic recycling unit is successfully operating in the Kannur IGC. Similarly, the KSIDC has allocated land to two recycling units and biomedical waste treatment unit, which are being set up.

Kinfra, which has 22 theme-based parks across the State and 3,559 acres acquired for setting up industrial infrastructure, has agreed to allocate plots in parcels of 10 cents, 15 cents, 20 cents, acre, etc., for setting up recycling units. Besides, entrepreneurs would be eligible for stamp duty and registration fee exemption.

One acre each has been earmarked for recycling units at the Kinfra Textile Centre at Nadukani in Kannur district and Hi-Tech Park in Kalamassery, and 0.50 acre at the Integrated Industrial and Textile Park in Palakkad, Small Industries Parks at Thalassery, Adoor, and Kunnamthanam and at International Apparel Park at Thumba.

Already, four recycling units are operating out of the Kinfra Integrated Industrial and Textile Park at Kanjikode in Palakkad district.
