The police on Monday submitted its report at Wadakkanchery Magistrate Court in connection with death of Jishnu Pranoy, student of Nehru Engineering College, Pambadi.

Nehru College Chairman P. Krishnadas is the first accused in the police report . Vice Principal Shakthivel, assistant professor Praveen, Examiner Vipin and PRO Sajith are the other accused in the case.

Though the police registered a case against five persons including Mr. Krishnadas, all of them are absconding. A police team went to their houses but couldn’t find them. The team has gone to Tamil Nadu in search of Mr. Sakthivel. The police are searching in the houses of their relatives too.

Sajith is the son of former minister K.P. Viswanathan. The police have charged Section 306 of IPC (Abetment of suicide) against the accused.

Criminal conspiracy, abetment of suicide and harassment are the charges against them.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating into the murder threat against investigating officer ASP Kiran Narayan. During an investigation by the Cyber Cell it was found that the ASP had received the threat call from a shop in Ernakulam.

The police report has ruled out almost all allegations of the college authorities in connection with Jishnu’s death. Though the authorities had alleged that Jishnu was caught copying during examination, they could not produce any evidence, the police report said.

The management treated Jishnu’s case with a vengeance. The role of Jishnu in some agitations in the college and his protest against some of the decisions of the management were the reasons for management’s ire against Jishnu, according to the police report.

No evidence of copying

According to the report of the college authorities, Jishnu was caught copying during the Physics examination on January 6. However, preliminary investigations and statements of the fellow students ruled out the chances of copying.

The police collected statements from 230 people, including students and teachers. These statements also didn’t give evidence of copying.

It was in these circumstances that the police decided to add Section 306 of IPC for abetment of suicide in the FIR and register case against the college authorities.

SFI protest

Meanwhile, the SFI disrupted road traffic in Ottappalam in protest against delay in re-opening the college. There was decision to hold a meeting of District Collector, Sub Collector, the college management, parents and students representatives on reopening of the college on Monday. However, the discussion did not take place as the authorities failed to turn up.

The action committee has decided to intensify agitation against the management, even though the police have decided to take case against the chairman and others.

The KSU, Youth Congress, Yuva Morcha, ABVP and AISF have offered support to the students’ association in Nehru College. They will conduct march and fasting in the coming days.

BJP general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan inaugurated a 24-hour fast by the Yuva Morcha on Monday.
