Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is reported to have directed secretaries to all departments to take disciplinary action against Secretariat employees who continue their protest against a Cabinet decision to include Secretariat in the proposed Kerala Administrative Service.

Members of the Kerala Secretariat Association affiliated to the Congress have been agitating against the Cabinet decision and of late they sign the attendance and refrain from doing their duties.

CM’s directive

Official sources said the Chief Minister had directed General Administration Department Secretary Sheela Thomas to initiate action after scrutinising surveillance camera visuals.

The housekeeping department had been entrusted with the task of searching the visuals to identify the participants in the agitation, which has been named ‘Nilppu Samaram’ by the association.

All service organisations, including the Kerala Secretariat Employees Association affiliated to the CPI(M) and the Kerala Secretariat Staff Union affiliated to the CPI, had protested against the decision.

Soon after the initial protest, members of the union were transferred from pivotal positions in the Secretariat. Now, Mr.Vijayan has directed to take action against members of the Congress organisation who are boycotting work after signing the attendance register, the sources said.
