Private hospital nurses in Kerala are on an indefinite strike seeking better wages .

The nurses are represented by the United Nurses Association (UNA) and the Indian Nurses Association (INA). The nurses want Kerala to implement the recommendations of Jagdish Prasad committee set up by the Supreme Court, which includes a minimum basic pay of not less that Rs.20,000. Private hospitals’ managements are unwilling to hike the salary by more than 35 per cent.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will meet with the representatives of both sides on July 20 to resolve the issue.
