70th birthday of maestro to be celebrated

The 70th birthday of Kathakali maestro Mathoor Govindan Kutty will be celebrated at the Swayamwaram auditorium, Kudamaloor, on Tuesday.

A host of dignitaries from various walks of life are expected to attend the function.

Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the proceedings, following which Jose K. Mani, M.P., and Suresh Kurup, former M.P., are expected to speak.

Convention

The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a convention, which will involve various cultural exponents like Madavoor Vasudevan Nair, Tiruvizha Jayashankar, Pallam Chandran, Kuroor Vasudevan Namboodiri, Kottakal Chandrasekharan and Talavadi Aravindan.

The cultural convention, which will commence at 6 p.m., will be inaugurated by G. Sudakaran.

LDF convener Vaikom Viswan will be the chief guest at the function.

District Collector Mini Antony, V.N. Vasavan M.L.A. and Thomas Chazikadan, M.L.A., will speak on the occasion.

A Kathakali presentation by performers from all over the State will bring a close to the celebrations.
