70.8 % voting in Idukki

Idukki district recorded a voting percentage of 70.8 in the Assembly elections held to the five constituencies on Wednesday, as per the data available with the district election office.

The highest voting percentage of 72.3 was recorded in Udumbanchola constituency. The constituency-wise polling percentage is as follows: Devikulam - 71.5 percent; Idukki - 70.1; Thodupuzha - 69.7 and Peerumade - 70.9.

The election was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported anywhere, Superintendent of Police K.K. Chellappan said. He said vehicles from Tamil Nadu were checked at the checkpoints and the chances of impersonation were effectively checked.

The border areas also witnessed massive movements of estate workers of Tamil Nadu origin who have voting rights in that State.
