A meeting of the Kollam Corporation on Friday gave its nod for installing solar-powered high mast lights at six locations in the city.
The locations are Saint Joseph’s Convent School Junction, Chinnakada Usha Theatre Junction, Kochupilamoodu Junction, Kollam beach, starting point of the road over bridge at Cantonment, and Nair’s Hospital Junction.
Mayor V. Rajendrababu said the lamps would be installed with private participation. The funds for maintaining the lamps would be generated by the private partner from advertisements to be installed at the site of the lamps.
The Mayor said if the private partner failed to maintaining the lamps, the Corporation would intervene as per the terms and conditions of an agreement.
Aerobic compost units would be established at Kallupalam Junction, Valiyakada market, Kadappakada market, Pallithottam, Ramankulangara market, Link Road, Thevally market, and at Port Division.
Mr. Rajendrababu said inclusion of more areas in this project would be decided by the council later.
He said 2,033 families would be included in the first phase of the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana project. The beneficiaries were being identified and a list would be submitted to the State Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee for approval, Mr. Rajendrababu said.
He said the Corporation would petition the Union Minister for Railways for permission to maintain the Cheena Kottaram (China Palace) on railway property at Chinnakada.
