The government propdses to set up 50 multi-storey industrial centres in the State as part of its efforts to promote small-scale industrial units in the State, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim told the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a calling attention motion moved by Saju Paul (CPI-M), the Industries Minister said the first of these multi-storey industrial centres would come up at the Edayar industrial belt in Ernakulam soon. The second would come up in Thrissur, he added.

Responding to another calling attention motion moved by Adoor Prakash (Congress), Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran said the State government had submitted a proposal to the Centre to set up a Rs. 50-crore food processing centre at the Food Research Institute at Konni in Pathanamthitta district.
