The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to operate inter-State services to five more States, in addition to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The KSRTC will operate services to Puducherry, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra from major cities in the State using a fleet of buses, as part of expanding its operations.
The KSRTC has entered into agreements with the transport undertakings of these States to operate the services using multi-axle buses.
The fares will be as per the inter-State agreements and the KSRTC can operate more buses during festival seasons, summer holidays, and weekends.
Profitable
“Inter-State services now operated using 456 KSRTC buses in 75,054 km in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are profitable. We have decided to expand it to other States after studies have shown that it is almost an untapped sector and fertile area,” Minister for Transport Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told a press conference here on Thursday.
With the cooperation of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd of Goa, the KSRTC will operate a service from Kozhikode to Panaji.
Another service will be operated from Kozhikode via Mangaluru, Karwar, Goa, and Pune to Mumbai.
An agreement has been reached with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation for this and the Kadamba Transport has given the nod to operate the service via Goa.
Services will also be operated from Kozhikode and Ernakulam to Hyderabad, Tirupati, and Puttaparthi with the cooperation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
