Pravesanotsavam on June 4

As many as 3.3 lakh students who are expected to join Class I this year will be welcomed with a colourful ‘Pravesanotsavam' in hundreds of schools across the State on June 4.

There are 12,644 schools in the government, aided and unaided sectors in the State, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb told a press conference here on Thursday.

The State-level inauguration of ‘Pravesanotsavam' would be held at Ernakulam Girls Higher Secondary School.

The academic year 2012-13 has been declared a year for the empowerment of the Parent-Teacher Associations. For the first time, the Department of Education would bring out handbooks for parents titled ‘Teach and Protect' which would be distributed at 5,000 schools on June 4, he said. Stringent action would be taken against those who sell tobacco products inside the 400-metre exclusion zone around schools. Overloading of vehicles transporting schoolchildren would not be allowed. Schools that face trouble from anti-social elements would be put under surveillance.
