Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said that commercial tax revenue in the State has increased thanks to introduction of scientific tax collection methods.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an official meeting at the Collectorate here on Thursday, Dr. Isaac said the tax collection in the last financial year was Rs.1,037 crore. As of June 16, the tax collection was Rs.1,117 crore and it was estimated to achieve a 30 per cent increase this month, he said.
Computerisation had ensured that all details of traders were available with officials of the Commercial Taxes, he said adding that 2,500 employees of the department would be given training in computerised tax collection in Thiruvanthapuram next month. The training would equip the staff to identify anomalies, including cases of the traders claiming input tax credit more than they were eligible for.
DA hike
The Minister said that welfare pension up to September this year would be disbursed in advance. He also said that rules would be amended to ensure that the State government could announce dearness allowance (DA) hike when the Central government announces the DA increase.
