The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission has granted permission to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to levy a power surcharge of 26 paise a unit on all consumers during the six months from April 1.
The surcharge will be withdrawn once the KSEB realises the additional cost of Rs.190 crore incurred owing to an increase in production cost.
KSEB submission
The KSEB had represented before the commission that owing to an increase in the cost of fuels used for power production, it had to bear an additional burden of Rs.311.52 crore between April and September 2009.
