Not less than 24 houses were damaged and standing crops destroyed in a whirlwind that lashed certain parts of Eraviperoor and Peringara grama panchayats on Wednesday night.

Ezhinjillom in the Peringara grama panchayat, Nellad, Thottappuzha and Nanoor areas in the Eraviperoor grama panchayat, the Upper Kuttanad village of Niranom, and Nalkalickal in Aranmula grama panchayat were the worst-affected. Power supply remained disrupted for the whole day due to snapping of electric transmission lines and uprooting of electric posts at many places. A Revenue Department team visited the areas on Thursday to assess the damage.
