2.23 kg of gold seized from flight, two held

The Air Customs Intelligence wing at the Karipur airport seized 2.23 kg of gold and arrested two passengers from a flight from Dubai which landed here on Tuesday.

Those arrested were Irshad Ali, 27, from Kozhikode and Fairoos, 24, from Koduvally.

Concealed under seats

The gold was found concealed under the seats of the Indigo flight. A gold bar weighing one kg was underneath one seat.

The rest was found under another seat. They duo reportedly told the Customs team that they were acting on instructions from by their handlers.

The Customs team was led by Assistant Commissioner K.K. Subramanian and Superintendents G. Balagopal and P. Girish Babu.

Intelligence officers K.R. Sajeev, Kausthubh Kumar, and Abhijit Kumar Gupta were also part of the team. The same team had recovered three kg of gold from an unclaimed baggage at Karipur on Monday.
