2 missing youths contact families

Message traced to Afghanistan

: Two among the 17 youths, including women, hailing from Padanna and Thrikkarippur who are suspected to joined Islamic terror groups, have sent messages to their families saying they are safe in their undisclosed location.

Hafeezuddin of Padanna had recently sent a WhatsApp message to his sister stating he was quite happy in his new location.

The purported message was traced to have originated from Tora Bora valley in eastern Afghanistan, according to investigating agency sources.

In another message, Ashfak, also from Padanna, contacted his father on July 21 to inform him that he was safe, a senior police officer said adding that experts were trying to trace the location from where the message was sent.

Meanwhile, the police here have handed over the cell phones seized from the relatives of the missing persons to ensure that there was no communication gap between them, sources here said.
