2 killed in road accident in Attingal

Two persons were killed and another 10 injured when a sand-laden lorry rammed into a Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) bus near Poovanpara bridge, Attingal, on the NH 47 on Wednesday.

According to the police, the accident took place around 6 a.m. when the KSRTC bus that was coming from Kilimanoor to Attingal had stopped at the bus stop near the Poovanpara bridge. The sand-laden lorry that was also coming behind the bus rammed into it resulting in the accident. The driver fled from the scene immediately after the incident. The injured were rushed to hospitals by the locals and the police.

The deceased had been identified as Suresh Babu, 50, of Koduvazhanoor in Kilimanoor and Sasi, 55, of Sharkara. Both of them were brought dead to the casualty wing of the Medical College Hospital. Of the injured, six had been admitted to Medical College Hospital and others to two private hospitals in Attingal.

The Attingal police have registered a case. The cause of the accident is not known. A Motor Vehicle Department official, who visited the spot, said the miscalculation of the lorry driver or he might have slept.

Traffic along the national highway stretch that was disrupted following the accident had been restored.
