Two members of a family were killed and six others injured when a jeep in which they were travelling in fell into a river from the Kunnathupalam Bridge near Vythiri in Wayanad district in the wee hours of Saturday.

The Vythiri police identified the deceased as Jaison, 34, and his mother Achamma, 60, of Vadakkel at Palchuram near Kottiyur in Kannur district.

Those injured were admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode. The police said Mr. Jayan, who drove the vehicle, had lost his control over the vehicle and it fell down in to the river after it rammed on the hand rails of the bridge.

Jaison and his family were returning to their house after visiting his brother, Justin, at Aluva. Jaison was a guest lecturer of the Mary Matha College at Mananthavadi.
