2 arrested in fake appeal case

The Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested a dance trainer and a middleman in connection with fake appeals at the 58th State School Arts Festival.

The police arrested Suraj, a dance trainer from Cherpu in Thrissur district, and Joby, a middle man from Kozhikode, for producing fake appeals in the name of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Joby is brother of a dance trainer in Kozhikode.

The Crime Branch sleuths are interrogating five more people, including teachers, in connection with the incident. There are reports that there may be more arrests in the case.

Ten fake appeals were filed in the name of child rights commission at the arts festival. They were from Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Ernakulam districts. The two were arrested on Tuesday following an investigation conducted by the Crime Branch team led by Inspector General of Police S. Sreejith.
