2 ADGPs among winners of President’s police medals

Additional Directors General of Police (ADGP) A. Hemachandran and N. Shanker Reddy are among the 84 officials who have been awarded the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service on the occasion of Independence Day.

Of the 682 who have been awarded Police Medals for Meritorious Service, 12 are from the State. None of the officials from the State figure in the list of President’s Police Medals for Gallantry and Police Medals for Gallantry.

Mr. Hemachandran is now serving as ADGP (Training) at the police headquarters and Mr. Reddy as ADGP (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau - VACB). Oommen Philip, Assistant Director, Intelligence Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram, has also been awarded the President’s Police Medal of Distinguished Service.

M.R. Ajith Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, who is now the City Police Commissioner, Kochi, has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

K.G. Simon, Superintendent, Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID), Ernakulam; Tojan V. Cyriac, Superintendent of Police, Immigration Wing, Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery; Sasidharan, Assistant Commandant, Thiruvananthapuram City, have also been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Others who have been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service are Kunhiraman Panakkaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, VACB, Kasaragod; C.K. Vishwanathan, Reserve Sub-Inspector, Armed Reserve(AR), Kasaragod; P. Bhaskaran, Sub-Inspector(SI), VACB, Palakkad; K. Satheesh Kumar, Sub-Inspector, Special Branch CID (SBCID) Headquarters, Thiruvananthapuram; George Sebastian, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), SBCID, Kasaragod; and A. Vijayakumar, Armed Police SI, Administration Wing, SBCID Headquarters, Thiruvananthapuram.

T.S. Gopakumar, Inspector of Railway Protection Force, now working in RPF’s Special Intelligence Branch, Thiruvananthapuram, has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. S. Jaikumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation, Chennai, has also been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

P. Balachandran, ASI, Anchal police station, Kollam Rural, and Prabhakaran K. , ASI district AR, Kasaragod, have been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

P. Vijayan, lecturer in law, Thiruvananthapuram, has been awarded the Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service. The Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to Sivakumar K. Vasudevan, fireman driver-cum-pump operator, attached to the Kattakada fire station in Thiruvananthapuram district.

Shaurya Chakra

Of the 15 Shaurya Chakra awards announced by the Union Defence Ministry, Major T.N. Unnikrishnan of 15 Batallion, Dogra Regiment and Assistant Commandant, Central Reserve Police Force, Durgapur-14 figure in the list. Commander Sujith Parakat Menon has been awarded the Nausena Medal for valour.
