The two day 17th State level Children’s Science Congress which concluded heer on Tuesday selected sixteen students (eleven girls and five boys) to represent the State as child scientists at the National Children’s Science Congress to be held at Ahmedabad from December 27 to 31.

Those selected comprise thirteen from the senior section and three from the junior section. 125 students from thirty six educational districts across the State participated in the event. One each from the senior and junior sections have also become eligible to participate in the Indian Science Congress to be held at the University of Kerala Campus at Thiruvanathapuram from Januray 3 to 8.

The two selected for the Indian Science Congress are Sneha John from Holy Angels Convent Thiruvananthapuram in the senior category and Ashwathy C.V. from KPC HSS Pattannur under the Thalassery Education District. Sneha got the selection for her project “a study on invasive alien species of plants in and around Akkulam and Velayani Lakes”. Ashwathy got selected for her project “A study on finding an effective shield from mobile phone radiation”.

The others selected are Adithya V.S. from Government HSS Kulashekarapuram in Kollam education district for the project “study and remedial suggestions on increasing thyroid disease in Kulashekarapuram”, Anju from Carmel HSS Thiruvanathapuram on “study of rainfall and soil conditions on the portability of water of selected wells”, Arya P.S. from BM GHS Kulathupuzha in Punalur education district for the project “a study on mushrooms”, Athira J. Nair from SMV HSS, Poonjar in Kanjirapally education district for the project “solar energy for reveolutionary development of agriculture”, Ayswary Alex from Mount Carmel HSS Kanjikuzhy in Kottayam for the project “importance of mimosa among medicinal plants”, Gopi Krishna R. from S.N. Public School Kollam for the project “study on toxity of polluted water in the Kollam Canal and Ashtamudi Lake”, Jeeva George from Sacred Hearts GHS Thalassery for the project “quality of water resources in and around Thalassery” Kavya Mithran from Saint Mary’s GHS Payyannur in Kannur educaton district for the project “study on floral diversity”, Kavya S.R. from SVV Nilayam HSS, Neyyattinkara for the project “ethanol production from candidate energy crops”, Navajyoth M.P. from Government HS Munderi in Kannur education district for the project “the quality of water based on distance between septic tank and well of the houses”, Ramon Dharmarajan from St. Thomas Central School, Mukkola in Thiruvanathapuram for the project “lichens as bio indicators of traffic pollution”, Souini Stephen from Vimala Hridaya HSS for Girls Kollam for the project “effects of industrialization, deforestation and vehicles in Chavara and Kollam: A threat to mankind”, Vijin V.L. From DVMNNM HSS Maranallur in Neyyattinkara education district for the project “level of water pollution in various places of Neyyar River” and Vishnav S. from Perambra HSS, Thamaraassery, for the project “butterflies of Cherumala Hill”.
