The government has decided to give accreditation to 12 private hospitals for providing free dialysis to patients who are eligible for financial assistance under the Karunya scheme, Finance Minister K.M. Mani has said.
A meeting of the State council of the Karunya Benevolent Fund held here on Wednesday decided to provide financial assistance to 3,797 patients who had sought assistance for treatment of cancer, heart diseases, renal diseases, brain and liver-related diseases and haemophilia. With this, 18,692 patients would get the assistance under the Karunya Benevolent Fund.
Three hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram, six in Kozhikode and one hospital each in Pathanamthitta, Wayanad and Kollam districts are being given accreditation.
The council had earlier decided to give accreditation to at least one private hospital or dialysis centre in every taluk.
The following are the hospitals which have been given accreditation: Thiruvananthapuram: NIMS Neyyattinkara, Jubilee Memorial hospital, Palayam, and Al-Arif hospital, Ambalathara.
Kollam: Padmavathi Medical Foundation, Sasthamkotta.
Pathanamthitta: Thiruvalla Medical Mission
Kozhikode: Apex Kidney Care Pvt. Ltd., Icra International Hospital and Research Centre, Service Cooperative Bank dialysis centre, Shihab Thangal dialysis centre, MIMS M.A. Mooppan Memorial dialysis centre, and MIMS Thanal dialysis centre, Vadakara.
Wayanad: Shanti Dree and Subsidised Dialysis Unit.
The accredited centres must have at least six dialysis machines, one-year’s work experience, service of trained nurses and doctors with expertise in renal medicine, trained technicians and permanent annual maintenance contract for dialysis machines.
