The Public Works Department will renovate 11 more roads leading to Sabarimala as per the National Highway standards at an estimated cost of Rs.76.55 crore, Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju has said.
The Minister was talking to media persons here after inspecting the main trunk roads leading to Sabarimala in the district on Tuesday afternoon. The Thiruvalla-Kumbazha Road (2 stretches), Kozhencherry-Melukara-Ranni Road, Kadakkad-Kaipattoor Road, and the Kumbazha-Konni Road will come under the proposed project.
The Minister said the work under the heavy maintenance scheme, with five-year warranty, on five major roads leading to Sabarimala was nearing completion.
He said the work on 83.49 kms was estimated at a total of Rs.60.45 crore.
Pilgrim centre at Ranni
The Minister said the government had given administrative sanction for constructing a 12-storey pilgrim centre at Ranni. The proposed pilgrim centre was estimated at Rs 16.50 crore.
The work on the proposed new bridge across the Kallar river at Pengattu kadavu in the Pampa near Vadaserikkara would commence in December. The Rs.8-crore work on the new bridge at Kanamala would be complete in the next 124 days, he said.
KSTP Phase II
The Minister said the work on the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP), Phase-II, on the Main Central Road would start from Chengannur in December itself.
Tender would be invited for another KSTP project, estimated at Rs.430 crore, on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha Road in the next six months, he said.
The Minister said the repair and maintenance of all government buildings at Pampa and Sabarimala had been completed.
T.O. Sooraj, Public Works Department Secretary; H. Salimraj, Additional District Magistrate; K.P. Prabhakaran, and P.K. Satheessan, PWD Chief Engineers, were present.
The Minister also inspected the Pampa-Triveni and Nialackal.
