The government has drawn up a roadmap to generate 1,00,000 IT jobs by May 2021 and create an ecosystem for start-up ventures and emerging technologies.

The Technocity project, to be inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday, is part of the blueprint for the sector, IT Secretary M.Sivasankar and CEO, IT Parks, Hrishikesh Nair told a press conference here on Wednesday.

They said efforts were on to double the existing office space by adding 100 lakh sq.ft. Apart from the 100,000 IT jobs, this would provide indirect employment to another 300,000 persons. Mr.Sivasankar said the GST regime was expected to have minimum impact on the IT sector.

Mr.Nair said the Technocity project was conceived to transform Thiruvananthapuram, along with Kochi and Kozhikode, into a hub for frontier technologies.
