The case diary on the probe into the February 15, 2012 killing of two Indian fishermen by two Italian marines off the Kerala coast was handed over to the National Investigation Agency here on Friday.
The files, which had been with the Neendakara coastal police station, were given to an NIA team in the presence of City Police Commissioner Debesh Kumar Behera.
On Wednesday, NIA officers met Director-General of Police K.S. Balasubramanian and requested that he order the transfer of the files.
It is understood that a compact disc of the files was also given to the NIA.
The case, initially investigated by a Special Investigation Team of the Kerala police headed by the former Kochi City Commissioner, M.R. Ajith Kumar, was handed over to the NIA on April 1, 2013 for a fresh probe on the orders of the Union Home Ministry.
The Ministry took the decision after the Supreme Court ruled that the Kerala government had no jurisdiction to handle the case.
On the basis of SIT investigation, a charge sheet was filed in the Kollam District and Sessions Court, and the preliminary trial started.
In the meantime, the Italian government moved the Supreme Court, arguing that India had no jurisdiction as the incident occurred in international waters.
