The no-holds-barred slugfest inside the Kerala Assembly earlier in the day found an echo in both Houses of Parliament on Friday as the Congress and Left party members from the State sparred with each other over the happenings.
The Central Ministers intervened in both Houses to point out that matters pertaining to a State legislature cannot be discussed by Parliament. However, the members remained agitated, making more than one attempt to raise the issue despite the Chair not allowing it.
When K.N. Balagopal of the CPI(M) sought to refer to the issue while raising another matter in the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien instructed that every reference to the State Assembly be expunged from the records.
In a statement, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau condemned the “Chandy government’s use of police to brutally attack LDF MLAs inside the Assembly.”
