Gandhian Anna Hazare's core group member Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to provide him with tapes of his speeches and transcripts that some MPs found derogatory.
In a letter to the Secretariat on the breach of privilege notice received by him on Saturday, Mr. Kejriwal said that he would be able to provide a detailed response only then.
“I have carefully gone through the letter/notice and all annexure thereto. However, the words alleged to have been said by me and found to be ‘derogatory' by the honourable Members of Parliament have not been intimated to me in the said letter/notice,” he said.
Copies of speech sought
Mr. Kejriwal also sought copies of speeches made by him on August 27, in which Congress member Jesudasu Seelam alleged that he had “used abusive language against MPs.”
The activist urged the Secretariat to also indicate to him which part of the extracts of the debate in Parliament annexed to the notice related to him.
“I hope you will appreciate that I will be able to provide a detailed response only after receiving the above material,” he said in his letter.
Mr. Kejriwal and his co-campaigners Prashant Bhushan and Kiran Bedi received breach of privilege notices from the Rajya Sabha for allegedly using derogatory words against MPs during Mr. Hazare's recent agitation on the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Each has to reply to the notice by September 14.
