Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal will leave on Monday for Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency where he is taking on Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. He is expected to start his campaign on Tuesday.

Mr. Kejriwal will take an evening train from the Capital and reach Varanasi on Tuesday. Polling in the city is scheduled for May 12, giving the party enough time to prepare for its “big contest.”

Mr. Kejriwal will camp in the city till the polling day. He is expected to file the nomination on April 22.

In between, Mr. Kejriwal will travel to Amethi parliamentary constituency to campaign for party leader Kumar Vishwas, who is taking on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, said party sources. Amethi goes to poll on May 7.

The entire top AAP leadership, including some of its volunteers in Delhi, will accompany Mr. Kejriwal. Senior party leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already in the city chalking out the party strategy. April 24 is the last date for filing nomination in Varanasi and the last date for withdrawal is April 28.

The third major contestant in Varanasi, besides Mr. Modi and Mr. Kejriwal, is Ajay Rai of the Congress.
