Upper reaches of Kashmir and famous ski resort of Gulmarg received heavy snowfall for the third consecutive day on Tuesday.

Srinagar and other plains witnessed snowfall late last night after a day-long heavy rains, resulting in further drop in the mercury.

Gulmarg, situated 55 kms from here, was all covered with snow setting the stage for skiing events ahead of its schedule.

While two and a half feet of snow had accumulated on the ground of the hill station, its peripheral areas, including Aferwath, Kangdoori and Khilanmarg recorded over three feet of snow.

The Kashmir-Gulmarg road leading to the ski resort, which was closed last evening for the vehicular traffic after heavy snowfall, today reopened as authorities cleared the accumulated snow from the surface, an official spokesman said.
