The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will not hesitate to take action against the former Union Minister, A. Raja, if he is proven guilty, party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Wednesday.
“The DMK believes that he has not committed any mistake. We are not prepared to abandon him until the charges against him are proved,” he said adding that till then he would not like to say anything more.
Asked about the searches by the CBI at Mr. Raja's Delhi and Chennai residences, he said: “Are the CBI searches to be talked about in such a big way?”
Did he view the searches as a matter of shame? His reply was, “I do not think so. There are some in the country who are steeped in shame.”
Replying to All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa's charge that he was blackmailing the Congress, he said it was she who had mastered the “art of blackmail.” To her comment on expanding the scope of investigation by the CBI, he said if the CBI made enquiries with her, it could unearth more. Already, a lot was obtained.
As for the DMK's position on a joint parliamentary committee probe into the 2G spectrum issue, he said the probe should include the allocations made during the previous governments too.
On the case involving the alleged attempt to influence a Judge using Mr. Raja's name for an anticipatory bail plea, Mr. Karunanidhi pointed to the denial issued by Mr. Raja in this regard.
