In a ghastly incident, a Zilla Panchayat member of Hebballi constituency belonging to BJP was hacked to death in the early hours on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, Yogeeshgouda Goudar, was reading newspaper sitting in front of his gym (Uday Gym and Fitness Club) in Saptapur, when a group attacked him with lethal weapons.

Mr. Goudar reportedly tried to escape by getting into the gym, but he was chased and attacked again. According to police, the victim sustained fatal injuries on head and neck and died at the spot. Blood stains were found at the entrance and the door of the gym. The workers at the gym were the first to notice Mr. Goudar lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police.

The motive behind the crime is being ascertained. It is not clear if it was a result of political rivalry or had something to do with his real estate business.

According to preliminary reports it was group of five persons which attacked Mr. Goudar. His elder brother Uday too was killed in a similar attack few years ago.

Mr Goudar, a former Taluk Panchayat member, who subsequently won from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency recently, was arrested on the night before the polling day for violating code of conduct.
