A few weeks ago, eight developers got together with one aim: entering the record books for creating the most number of websites in the least time. What they ended up doing is creating 36 websites in less than 13 hours.
Prathik Jain, who works in a jewellery shop, was responsible for mobilising the group comprising students and tech graduates through a social networking platform, along with Mohit Jain, a school dropout who picked up the art of web-designing on his own.
They had begun preparation months in advance, with each focusing on an area of expertise. They call themselves ‘#WF1008’ as they promised to develop a website for Rs. 1008. From the requests they received, they shortlisted 36 and created the websites on April 5 at Akshaya Institute of Technology, Tumkur, in 12 hours and 43 minutes with a break of one hour and 17 minutes. The websites are for jewellery brands, an organisation working to empower women, film distributors and a few individuals.
A group of lecturers from the institute monitored the feat. Irfan G., dean, said that the institute was happy to host the talented bunch.
There were a few hurdles, Prathik said. These included malfunctioning of the main server and uploading files that had multiple languages.
Rahul Jain, who works for a jewellery brand, was thrilled with the website he got.
