Rural police here have arrested a youth in connection with murder of his former lover at Shettikottanur recently. The police gave the name of the accused as Abhilash (24).
Abhilash was in love with Kavya of the same area. Both of them wanted to marry and Kavya’s mother Rathnamma reportedy agreed to it. However, Kavya snapped ties with Abhilash and started loving another youth. Apparently upset by this, Abhilash hatched a conspiracy to kill her, Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch said.
Abhilash reportedly called Kavya on October 18 on the pretext of getting her new clothes. When she went to the tank on the outskirts of the village, Abhilash strangulated her and dumped the body in the tank.
Based on the call records, the police found that he had called Kavya. Abhilash admitted to have committed the crime when the police took him into custody, Ms. Katoch said. He was remanded in judicial custody.
