Mr. Gowda was speaking at a function organised by the Hassan District Consulting Civil Engineers and Architectures’ Association here on Sunday

The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has expressed disappointment, stating that the younger generation and the media have been ignoring his contribution to the State and the country.

Mr. Gowda was speaking at a function organised by the Hassan District Consulting Civil Engineers and Architectures’ Association here on Sunday.

“Even the media is ignoring my contribution,” he said.

He added that people should remember him for the role he played in getting several projects implemented such as construction of Yagachi and Hemavati reservoirs.

H.D. Revanna, MLA, said that civil engineers and architects had a major role in ensuring planned growth of the city.

They should not encourage haphazard growth that might make providing new areas with basic amenities difficult, he said.

Legislators Patel Shivaram and H.S. Prakash were present.

Later speaking to the media, Mr. Gowda said that those convicted in gang-rape cases should be given severe punishment.

The Union government should make efforts to bring in suitable amendments to existing laws, he said.
