‘Yeddyurappa’s statements can cost BJP alliance with JD(S)’

The statements issued by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president B.S. Yeddyurappa over the alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) may come in the way of the alliance between the two parties in the Legislative Council and also cost the BJP the post of the Council Chairman, said JS(S) MLC T.A. Saravana.

Speaking to the presspersons on Sunday, Mr. Saravana said that it was unfortunate that Mr. Yeddyurappa had been making some damaging statements regarding entering into an alliance with JD(S) in BBMP and other local bodies. “Mr. Yeddyurappa should know that JD(S) never knocked on the doors of the BJP or the Congress for an alliance. Moreover, BJP could elect its member D.H. Shankaramurthy as the chairman of the Legislative Council with the support of the JD(S). He may lose his post in case the alliance between the BJP and the JD(S) in the Legislative Council breaks up,” he added.

Mr. Saravana said his party would like to elevate senior member Basavaraj Horatti, who won the Legislative Council election from Karnataka West Teacher’s constituency seven consecutive times, as the chairman of the house. Both BJP and the Congress should support his candidature considering his seniority. It may lead to a new precedent if Mr. Horatti was elected to the post of the chairman, he said.

About JD(S) moving or supporting a no confidence motion against Mr. Shankaramurthy during the coming Legislative session, he said the party had not yet taken any decision on this issue. However, the party may take a stand before July 4, he said.
