Close on the heels of the Karnataka High Court lifting the restrictions imposed on his travel out of Bangalore, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has decided to commence a tour of the drought-hit areas on August 20.
Announcing this at the Independence Day celebrations in the Bharatiya Janata Party State office here on Wednesday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would convene a meeting of prominent leaders of the party on August 18 to finalise the tour itinerary.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would visit seven or eight districts in the first phase of the tour.
Mr. Yeddyurappa had announced that he would tour the State during the recently concluded legislature session.
However, he had put such plans on hold as the anticipatory bail issued to him with respect to the CBI inquiry had restricted him from leaving Bangalore without prior permission from the investigating agency.
Mr. Yeddyurappa’s tour plans have become a cause for concern in the BJP as the party is still not sure whether it is going to be a one-man show.
“The party will not associate itself with the tour if its leaders were not involved in it,” according to sources in the BJP.
Political circles are curious about Mr. Yeddyurappa’s proposed tour as the former Chief Minister, who has led several public campaigns in the past, is now embarking upon another such tour after a long time.
Besides, it is being seen as an effort by him to gauge the pulse of the people before making a decision on his future political moves.
