The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has announced that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Shimoga constituency. Mr. Yeddyurappa had announced in Mangalore recently that neither he nor his son B.Y. Raghavendra would contest the Lok Sabha elections from Shimoga.

Addressing a convention of BJP activists in Shikaripur on Tuesday, he said that “the national and State BJP leaders have decided to field me from Shimoga constituency. I will honour their decision.”

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that BJP leaders from the district, including the former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, Rajya Sabha member Ayanur Manjunath, MLCs R.K. Siddaramanna and M.B. Bhanuprakash, met him on Tuesday and requested him to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has a strong base in Shimoga district, he said and expressed the confidence of winning the elections. He said that even after winning the Lok Sabha elections, he would work actively to strengthen the BJP in the State.
