A day after he took over the reins of the Karnataka Janata Paksha, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had more reason to cheer on Monday as the Special CBI Court granted him bail in the illegal mining case where he has been accused of receiving kickbacks from a mining firm.
The court also granted bail to Mr. Yeddyurappa’s sons B.Y. Raghavendra, B.Y. Vijayendra and son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar, the former Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Setty and nine others. All of them were present in the court on Monday.
The court, however, impounded their passports and imposed restrictions on foreign travel. They have also been asked to appear in person before the court during every future hearing. They were granted bail after they furnished a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakh each and surety for the same amount.
The court decided to grant bail to these high-profile accused after it was informed that the CBI has completed its investigation in the case. The case has been posted for further hearing on January 29.
