Mr. Yeddyurappa asked MLAs and Ministers loyal to him not to resign as he wants the government to complete its full term.
Putting an end to speculation for months, the former Karnataka Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, on Friday formally severed his 40-year association with the Bharatiya Janata Party. He gave up the primary membership of the party and resigned from the Legislative Assembly. He represented the Shikaripur constituency in Shimoga district.
However, for now, there appears to be no trouble for the BJP government of the State, headed by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, with Mr. Yeddyurappa telling the MLAs supporting him not to quit the Assembly. “You must remember that we must not be accused of bringing down this government.”
At the same time, he warned the Chief Minister not to discriminate against legislators and Ministers who had identified themselves with him. “We want your government to complete the full term. But if you try to discriminate against the legislators who are associated with me, then you alone will be responsible for the consequences.”
Mr. Yeddyurappa, who headed the BJP’s first government in the State, rebelled after the party leadership forced him to step down as Chief Minister following his indictment in the Karnataka Lokayukta report on illegal mining. His relationship with the party soured further after the central leadership took the stand that he would not be given any top post till he was cleared in the ongoing cases of alleged corruption.
Soon after quitting the BJP, Mr. Yeddyurappa formally joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) by enrolling himself as a member. He will take charge as its State president at a convention to be held in Haveri on December 9. He asked legislators to keep away from the convention in an effort to bail them out from the dilemma in the wake of a warning issued by the party leadership against attending the rally.

It is no coincidence that both Mr. B S Yeddyurappa and Mr. Nitin
Gadkari have a RSS background. Unfortunately, however, when RSS
volunteer are in politics they often unlearn every thing which RSS
claims to be its core strength-honesty and transparency in public
life. The common argument is that for politicians it is not possible
to survive in today's polluted environment without the type of
dealings which the citizens feel both Yeddyurappa and Gadkari are
guilty of. Of course, it is another matter that it is only the
politicians and bureaucracy who have created such an environment.
Thank the heavens. Finally he did it. Good for BJP and Karnataka assembly. It's for the people of Karnataka to keep him out of any public office. Elect him at your onw peril.
Yeddyurappa was doing a good job as CM and tried hard to cut down the
Reddy brothers who were looting K'Taka Mineral resources, but looks
like this was not liked by BJP Central leadership and they conspired
against him and false cases were filed against him and they got rid of
him as they wanted a CM who would be weak and danced to tunes of
Central leadership. BJP has lost his morals and values and has become
a party of crooks and backstabbers. I wish Yeddy all the best and
success with his new party and wish his KJP wins assembly elections
and he becomes the CM again. As Kejriwal pointed out, both BJP and
Congress are both crooks and looters and are protecting each other. It
is time for a new party in K'tka as Congress, JD(S) and even BJP have
shown their true colors.
It must indeed be a sad day for BS Yeddyurappa to walk away from forty years of memories in his association with the Party he has worked to build in Karnataka. People are unable to understand why ispite of the offers made by the BJP to retain him, he chose to take his own path. According to media reports he was offered either one of the posts of the President of the State unit or Chairman of the Campaign committee. An offer to project him as the chief ministerial candidate was also on the cards. But what stopped him in considering these offers in not known. It must also be a sad day for those who have worked with him but are now unwilling to walk with him all the way to KJP. For those undecided, it must be hard for them to choose between the ideology of BJP and the charisma of BSY.
Really bad day begins to BJP. A national party needs to understand state's ground reality.Ignoring is country's pain. Really bad day begins to BJP a national party of India.
Yeddyji has destroyed the party that he built in Karnataka. No one can
shake a honest leader. Once you abuse power, you will be dumped by
People. In this internet era, you will be exposed in no time. You can
manipulate and hold on for some time.Ultimately you will fail. Caste
considerations will help only if you are not corrupt. You can not buy
all the people. You can win their confidence only if you perform well.
Congress will stand to lose if they aligned with Yeddy.
He is the best actor of this century. Shame
A day of sadness indeed. Not just for Shri Yeddyurappa or the BJP, but for all the people of Karnataka. He was one of the few truest and tallest leaders Karnataka has ever seen. Wonder if we'll ever see the likes of him again.
